    Listen To This: Christmas 2016

I started listening to holiday music in early October. That’s mainly because I want to be able to do what I’m doing here today: share with you a new playlist of songs to enjoy during the season. If I didn’t start listening until it was socially appropriate, you wouldn’t get your playlist until Christmas Eve, and what good is that? I also plug in to these festive tracks so early because I just really enjoy them. And in advance of a very stressful few weeks earlier this year, I found myself breathing a little easier whenever holiday music was what was streaming through my earbuds. (Until now, it was my little secret.)

    A Glimpse That’s Not

The strangest thing has been happening lately. Wherever I go, for the briefest moment, I’m seeing familiar faces in complete strangers. That is, I glimpse someone I’ve never seen before in my life and for just a flash I’m sure it’s someone I know. There, on the sidewalk outside this cafe in Brooklyn: that’s my friend’s mom. There, on the subway into the city: that’s my high school crush. There, in line at the post office: that’s my old boss. There, in the lobby at the theater: that’s my college sorority sister. It’s unpredictable and unanticipated, but it’s happened every other day or so for about a week now. At…

No Voice (Work) to Speak Of

When I left Indianapolis, I might’ve sold all my furniture but I did still have a lot to take with me. I couldn’t part with my collection of books or films. Audrey certainly made the move. And I was also able to keep my voicework up, as my agent booked me work whether I was in Park City or New York City. But as time passed, the gigs became fewer and farther between. For whatever reason, I wasn’t booking new work and the clients I had read for had moved on. So in taking a new job (that came with its very own pay cut!), I needed to figure out…

    Future Adventures (Part 2)

I just took a moment to reflect on all the cool adventures I’ve been on so far in 2016, a nice little reminder of the bright spots in an otherwise wonky year. And with the start of a new month, I thought I’d look ahead, too – give myself the nudge I need to keep making the most of my time and keep those adventures coming. Gotta have something to Instagram, right?

    Recent Adventures (Part 1)

A little over halfway through, I can say with a certain confidence that 2016 has taken a few twists and turns that I didn’t exactly see coming. I spent most of my quieter moments in July processing all of that, and it’s only with the start of the new month that I’m able to articulate some of it. So in a two-part post, I’m looking back and looking ahead. As I’ve been all up in my head about how rocky this year has been, I’d forgotten just what awesome adventures I’ve been on these last six or seven months. And with the first of the month comes the requisite updates about all…

    Links I’ve Clicked (Recently)

For the last several weeks (ok, months), I’ve ignored my Pocket list as I try to get through Ron Chernow’s Hamilton (which for the record, is REALLY good). Then I discovered that my trusty Chicago Public Library has the audio version available for check-out, and suddenly I’m freed up to go back to reading the quick hits of my ever-growing links list. Such is my love for the written word read aloud that I let myself off the Chernow hook until my name comes up on the hold list for the audiobook. What I’ve been reading this week is nothing if not eclectic, and I gotta be honest: I loved every…
