I sometimes can’t believe the number of years I’ve notched (surely I’m still 19? 29?), but if this recent trend keeps up that each new one is better than the last, then may they keep coming for as long as possible. 🥂

Feeling loved and held and supported and encouraged, and so grateful for the people in my life who remind me of it every day. 💖

By far the coolest way to enjoy a @cubs game! Last-minute splurge on (relatively) dirt cheap 1914 Club tickets for the last Friday 1:20 game of the season. When you live a mile away and the only boss you have to check in with is yourself…why not?! Not a terribly eventful game, but a win’s a win, and it’s definitely that much cooler from the 2nd row!

So long, Summer 2024! You were the season of shows, and we snuck in one last one before the cooler temps and shorter days take over. Baby’s first @riot_fest was a blast!

Last weekend was a two-show weekend for me, and I’m sorry to say I wasn’t really blown away by either…

At @ChicagoShakes, new artistic director Edward Hall kicks off his…reign?…with HENRY V, a nod to founding AD Barbara Gaines’ first-ever show for the company. Though packed with powerful performances, the grandeur of Henry’s battles never quite filled the Courtyard Theater.

North of the city, Glencoe’s @writers_theatre boldly launches their season with the Chicago premiere of NATASHA, PIERRE AND THE GREAT COMET OF 1812. It’s a puzzler of a production, with underwhelming source material (despite the splash it made on Broadway) and I fear I’m in the minority in my disappointment.

More than once since arriving at @tiff_net, I’ve been asked what’s my main reason for attending? And I get it. I do a little bit of everything, and being self-employed, it’s not like my boss is sending me as part of my job…

…except she is. I am. I made a decision fifteen years ago that I wanted to do work that involved being at film festivals, because this is a part of the industry I love so much.

So yes, as CEO of @brightirisfilmco, I send our top gal (also me) to a few fests each year, with or without a client in the mix, to connect with clients I only ever see on Zoom, build my network of colleagues and peers, and put myself in the path of professional serendipity, bumping into folks in line or at screenings.

But also? Also I just LOVE MOVIES. I’m a movie person, always have been. And if I’m coming all this way and working all these long days, I’m absolutely going to treat myself to the glitz of a few great films, too.

So if you see me tucking into a seat at a premiere and wonder what exactly I’m doing here, yes - it’s work. And yes, it’s also what I love. I am so lucky.

“Let’s play two!”

Wrapped up summer concert season in the most Chicago of ways: @pearljam at #WrigleyField. My only regret is that we didn’t go to Night One. Eddie and crew still absolutely bring it, and between the big ones and the new ones we got some very cool ones, too (Falling Slowly acoustic with @glenhansard?! Wow.).

Stella girl has been struggling the last couple weeks and cat moms know when something’s up…one @dukeanimalhospital visit later and she’s on antibiotics for a UTI! She’s on pain meds, too…and I think she’s enjoying them!
