Glennon & Reese & Abby & Sophia…and All The Wisdom at TogetherLive
When I tried telling friends about the event I attended last night, I found it hard to explain. Kind of like a live podcast recording…without the podcast? A live event, but not a performance at all. Storytelling and truth-telling, but not preachy by any means. And depending on who I was talking to, I led with a different name: to the pop-culture fiend, it was Reese Witherspoon; to the sports fanatic, Abby Wambach; to the fellow warriors, the name Glennon Doyle instantly explains it all. I’m still not entirely sure what to call it, honestly. But whatever name you give it, my night at Hello Sunshine x TogetherLive was wonderful. A partnership event…
What a difference a year makes
One year ago this week, I got an email from Sundance following up on a job I’d applied for. One of the dozen or so I’d applied for with them over the years, to be honest. I still don’t know what it was about me and my resume that convinced my soon-to-be manager to reach out to me, but I’ll be forever grateful. Because, whether she realizes it or not, The Email From Sundance (for it is of fabled proportions these days) set in motion a series of events that, though the getting through them wasn’t always easy, the end result has been more than worth it. It hasn’t come out of nowhere, obviously, but this renewed sense of urgency has caught me a bit by surprise. It’s as if it was always there, hanging out by the jukebox, waiting patiently while I danced with other boys. Egging me on in my goofy artistic pursuit are women who I’m sure don’t even know they’ve made an impression on me, some because I’ve never told them, but most because I don’t even know them. There’s a lot of buzz around women writing and…
Creating our happiness
Recently I’ve heard exciting news for three very deserving and very talented friends. Each, after working and planning and interviewing and working some more, was offered a new job in that exciting way where everyone knows it’s the organization that’s lucky to have gotten them rather than the other way around. While I celebrate from afar with these three wonderful women (alas, all three are based in the midwest), I can’t help but be even just a little bit proud. Not proud in that I had something to do with their success way, because I most certainly didn’t. But proud in that I’m so excited to cheer them on kind…
